Acute

Dedicated to rehabilitation for more than a century, St. Charles is a leading New York hospital for acute rehabilitation.

At St. Charles, we devote 76 hospital beds to acute rehabilitation, more than any other hospital on Long Island. St. Charles Hospital boasts Downtown St. Charles, an immersive rehabilitation module that is the first of its kind on Long Island, while our Pediatric Brain Injury Unit remains the only one of its kind in both Nassau and Suffolk County, New York.

St. Charles Hospital has pioneered some of the newest technological advances in the field of rehabilitation, such as the Indego® Exoskeleton, which allows adults with a partial spinal cord injury or stroke to stand and walk while seeking to improve their stride. We’ve opened our research studies on such technologies to those in our acute rehabilitation programs, delivering the kind of opportunities that patients have come to expect from the nation’s top acute rehabilitation hospitals.

St. Charles holds 7 different program accreditations from CARF, the global leader in rehabilitation accreditation.  We are the first on Long Island to achieve their accreditation in both comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical rehabilitation and have maintained this accreditation since 2008. Our stroke rehabilitation program is the only CARF-accredited Stroke Specialty program on Long Island and we are only the hospital in New York State with CARF-accredited Specialty programs in both Pediatric Rehabilitation and Brain Injury Rehabilitation for Children and Adolescents.

St. Charles Hospital remains to true to our founder’s mission of compassion. Our attention to the whole person—mind, body and spirit—together with our continued commitment to delivering high-quality acute rehabilitation care in a hospital setting has garnered positive feedback from our patients, 98% of whom say they would recommend acute rehabilitation at St. Charles Hospital to friends and family.
