Indego® Exoskeleton

For Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Rehabilitation

St. Charles is one of nine hospitals in the U.S., and the only hospital on Long Island, to conduct a clinical trial of the Indego® exoskeleton, an FDA-approved, wearable robotic frame that enables individuals with partial, lower-body paralysis resulting from a spinal cord injury (SCI) to stand walk.

While medical literature showing the physical benefits of gait training for those with paraplegia continues to grow, researchers at St. Charles are documenting whether the exoskeleton’s advanced technology facilitates significant physical improvements with walking.

For Stroke Rehabilitation

St. Charles is the only hospital on Long Island, and one of six in the U.S., to launch a clinical trial examining whether the Indego® exoskeleton is effective in helping stroke patients regain their ability to walk.

Research shows that rehabilitation devices, like the Indego® exoskeleton, which require more active participation by the patient improve rehabilitation outcomes.
